A Sampson Medal is a commemorative medal of the US Navy for service in the Spanish-American War in the fleet of the Rear Admiral William T. Sampson. This is one of only two medals officially named and issued to a recipient. The recipient's name and rank is engraved on the edge of the medal. The name of the ship that the recipient served is found on the ribbon bar. This medal has the name Walter L. Carter SEA and the ship was the USS Dixie.
